The value set contains ICD10CM concepts for neuropathy. Neuropathy is defined here as a disorder affecting the cranial or peripheral nerves causing pain, tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness (NCI, 2020).

Purpose

(Clinical Focus: The value set contains ICD10CM concepts for neuropathy.),(Data Element Scope: The intent of this data element is to identify people diagnosed with neuropathy, i.e., disorders affecting the cranial nerves or the peripheral nervous system. This element may map to "Diagnosis" Category of the Quality Data Model.),(Inclusion Criteria: Includes both mononeuropathies and polyneuropathies. Includes primary neuropathies and neuropathies associated with other diseases, e.g., diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases. Includes neuropathies due to exposure to substances, e.g., alcohol and chemotherapy. Includes neuropathies due to physical injury.),(Exclusion Criteria: Excludes amyotrophy, i.e., neuropathies affecting only motor nerves.)
