Purpose(Clinical Focus: Open and minimally invasive hysterectomy procedures),(Data Element Scope: ICD9-CM codes that express a hysterectomy procedure.),(Inclusion Criteria: Open surgery hysterectomies and minimally invasive hysterectomies (e.g., vaginal hysterectomy, laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy, and robot-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy).),(Exclusion Criteria: Uterine surgical procedures that do not necessarily result in an inability to become pregnant (e.g., removal of a uterine lesion). Surgical procedures on the cervix alone (i.e., a procedure that involves the cervix but not the uterus, such as a cone biopsy of the cervix). Procedure codes that represent pelvic evisceration. Diagnosis codes that mention a previous hysterectomy within the definition of the code.)
